A 72-year-old great-grandmother from Texas who was Tasered by a deputy constable on a local highway has accepted a $40 000 settlement offer from Travis County, the Austin American-Statesman reports.
Kathryn Winkfein had sought more than $135 000 for pain and suffering, medical expenses and humiliation.
The 4-foot-11 woman was zapped by Deputy Constable Christopher Bieze after daring the officer to do so during a confrontation at a May traffic stop.
She was charged with resisting arrest, a charge that is still pending.
Precinct 3 Constable Richard McCain said an internal investigation found no violations by Bieze. He called the settlement “a miscarriage of justice.”
Travis County Judge Sam Biscoe said defending a lawsuit from Winkfein could have cost the county more than the $40 000 settlement.

I can’t believe someone would taser a 72 year old 4 foot 11 inch great grandmother. It almost sounds like a joke. This tasering business needs to stop. I am surprised her heart didn’t stop.
Okay so yeah it seems out of line to taser her.
But that old granny was whack. Someone needed to tell her she aint queen of the world.
She was sorta asking for it (as the saying goes) but she’s a woman, an elderly person and very short. He couldn’t disarm her using his own strength? He had to basically electrocute her? Give me a break!

Hate to say it, she deserved it : she WANTED and created that entire situation : she treated the officer like a toy and didn’t give him any respect and CONTINUALLY refused to do what he asked. There should have been no payout. If he tried to grapple with her, he would have broken her arms easily. What a stupid old woman. That was like placebo sex to her.
