Police plan to upgrade charges against an Iraqi immigrant accused of running over his own daughter for being “too Westernized” following the death of the 20-year-old woman.
Glendale, AZ resident Faleh Hassan Almaleiki has been returned to the state after attempting to flee to Britain.
According to family members, the 48-year-old father was furious after his daughter married a man in Iraq but returned to Arizona to live with a boyfriend and his mother.
Noor Almaleki died on Monday.
Prosecutors say Almaleki has admitted to purposefully running down his daughter with a Jeep Cherokee.
“By his own admission, this was an intentional act and the reason was that his daughter had brought shame on him and his family,” says attorney Stephanie Low. “This was an attempt at an honor killing.”
