The strikingly realistic images showing the people inhabiting the graves below them have been etched into extravagant marble headstones in an area specially reserved for former gangsters.

Adding to their oddity, several of the dead leather clad mafioso are captured in poses including smoking cigarettes, wearing loud Hawaiian shirts and chatting on the telephone.

One of the men brought to life by his image even features a sparkling gold watch and equally shiney ring.

The unusual cemetery in the industrial Uralmarsh area of Ekaterinburg, Russia, sits in a tree-lined retreat in what became one of Russia’s most violent gangster zones following the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.
