Tony Perkins was arrested last week after a former girlfriend reported him.
The additional charges will be recommended by police after two dozen women came forward to say they also had relations with Perkins.
“They are scared, depressed, embarrassed,” Police Chief Joe Pitcher of Greenwood, Ind., said of the past partners to The Indianapolis Star. “We told them they need to be tested for HIV right away.” None of the women, he said, has been diagnosed with the disease.
After becoming infecting in 2004, Perkins began meeting women through an online dating service and then later met the women at bars from Greenwood, Ind., to Louisville, Ky.
For his part, Perkins says he is consumed by guilt and thoughts of suicide for concealing the disease from his partners — though he contends he used a condom every time.
Claiming he stopped taking AIDS medications two years ago in hopes of dying, he says: “I wanted to make my peace with God.”
