Rambo, a fifteen-month-old boxer dog, strikes a pose with his owner, Jyoti Pillai, on Wednesday (July 14) after he recovered from a road accident by undergoing stem cell therapy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

This cute dog has become the first animal in the world to be successfully treated with stem cell therapy.

After breaking his spinal cord in an accident, Rambo is now walking and running thanks to this latest technology.

Stem cells were taken from Rambo’s own bone marrow and then grown at a centre in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. These stem cells were then grafted onto the dog’s spine by vets at the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

Dr P. Thangaraju, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said: “This is a preliminary case we are projecting. The dog recovered within couple of months of the procedure being performed. More studies will be conducted.”
